Fractional Marketing & Communications Manager for Specialist B2B SMEs

Helping your B2B business get clear, get found & get direction.

Whether you need support with a one-off project or ongoing fractional marketing and communications manager support, I’ll help you clarify your messaging, build authority and trust with your audience, and run your marketing function without the full-time cost or commitment.

Here’s how I can help:

Brand Strategy

Before anything else, your business needs to be clear about what it stands for and be able to say it confidently and consistently.

To help you get to the core of your why and clarify how you communicate your value and connect with your target audience, I run engaging, interactive positioning and messaging workshops for you and your team.

During the day, we’ll get to the heart of what you stand for and why customers should choose you over every credible alternative. We’ll get clear on your purpose and vision, your unique value proposition, your ICP and your brand personality. From this, you’ll have a comprehensive brand positioning and messaging framework and a tone-of-voice guide your whole team can use.

Authority & Visibility

This is the engine that keeps your business visible, in search, in the press, and increasingly, in the answers AI tools give when someone asks a question your business needs to show up in.

Rather than handing you over to three different freelancers who’ve never met, I provide this as a single, joined-up system. So you have content, SEO, press relationships and AI discoverability, all pulling in the same direction.

Digital PR is a superpower and your biggest strategic opportunity right now, as the authority signals you need to be visible to AI systems live both on and off your site. I’ll work with you to create a thought leadership strategy that positions your team as industry experts to build authority and create trust.

Marketing Management

Sometimes you don’t need a project; you need a senior marketing and communications professional who understands technical, considered-purchase businesses well enough to own the whole department- in effect, a fully outsourced marketing department.

If you need someone to run your marketing function but don’t want the hassle or cost of employing someone full-time, I can work with you on a part-time basis, one or two days a week.

I’ll run strategy, campaigns, budget and reporting in the same way a full-time marketing director would, without the full-time cost and commitment.

Freelance Marketing Management

I’ve spent most of my career working with technical, considered-purchase businesses, those with long buying cycles and where buyers do real research before they commit. Manufacturing, software, logistics and professional services companies- all enterprises where clarity, trust and authority, and now being findable by AI, matter more than trendy visuals or a clever slogan. For fourteen years, I’ve helped turn technical products, specialist expertise and intricate ideas into clear, commercially effective marketing that builds authority, strengthens brands and supports sales.

Over my career, I’ve worked for a multi-brand manufacturing business, controlling content strategy and budgets, creating and running campaigns and mentoring junior marketers. Over the past four years, I’ve leaned heavily into PR and have run PR strategy, media relations and thought leadership programmes for several brands. I’ve also run my own consultancy, working with manufacturing, software, logistics, and professional services clients who needed someone who could make technical expertise easy to understand and trust. In addition to working with my own clients, I partner with creative agencies that need brand strategy and content support without bringing a senior specialist in-house. If you’re an agency owner looking for brand strategy, integrated communications, PR, content or AI discoverability support, let’s chat.

Fractional Marketing & Communications Manager

As well as having 14 years’ experience, I’m a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM), hold a CIM Level 6 Diploma in Professional & Digital Marketing, and am currently working towards full Chartered Marketer status. And if you’re wondering where my love of clear communication comes from, it’s probably thanks to the First-Class degree in English Literature I picked up before marketing stole my heart; translating complexity into something people connect with turns out to be a transferable skill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Buyers researching complex or high-value purchases, industrial equipment, software, logistics partners, professional services, increasingly start that research by asking an AI tool for a recommendation rather than scrolling through search results. If your business isn’t part of what that AI has learned to trust and cite, you’re invisible at exactly the point someone is deciding who to shortlist.

A fractional marketing and communications manager does the same job as a full-time marketing director or manager: strategy, campaigns, budget, reporting, just for a set number of days a week rather than five. For technical businesses, it means senior marketing leadership that actually understands complex products and long sales cycles, without the cost of a permanent hire.

AI tools build trust in a business much the way a cautious human would: by checking whether other credible sources vouch for it. Digital PR, being covered, quoted, or cited by trade press, industry publications, and other trusted sites, is one of the strongest signals that your business is a legitimate source worth recommending to AI systems. Content on your own site tells an AI what you say about yourself; PR coverage tells it what other people say about you, and that carries more weight.

Fractional marketing and communications support in the UK is typically priced as a monthly retainer based on the number of days committed, rather than on a day rate for occasional work. It works out at a fraction of a full-time senior marketer’s salary and overhead.

Yes. Brand positioning and content projects are available as standalone, fixed-fee work if you’re not ready for an ongoing retainer.
